Framing & Drywall Calculators
Stud math splits into two very different things: the spacing arithmetic, which is exact (wall length divided by on-center, plus one), and the adders for corners and openings, which are trade convention that no standard codifies. Most calculators blur that line. Ours draws it: the exact part is presented as arithmetic, the convention part is labeled convention, and the difference matters when a lumber package misses by a dozen studs.
Not Sure Where to Start?
Stud Calculator for Framing is the one most people need. It does the exact spacing math for a plain wall. Add openings and corners with the windows-and-doors version once the basic count makes sense.
Count the Studs
Exact on-center arithmetic, then the labeled conventions for corners, tees, and openings.
- Stud Calculator for FramingGet an exact stud count from wall length and OC spacing, then see labeled corner, opening, and plate adders kept separate from the arithmetic.
- Wall Framing Calculator with Windows and DoorsSee how each window or door opening adds king studs, jack studs, and cripples on top of exact spacing math: labeled as a trade convention, not code.
Drywall
Mud, tape, and screws per thousand square feet of hung board, using the published finishing conventions.
- Drywall Mud CalculatorGet joint compound, tape, and screw quantities from your board area, using the per-1000-sq-ft baseline: ~10 gallons compound, ~350 lf tape, ~1,250 screws.
- Drywall Finishing Cost CalculatorFinish level (GA-214, Level 0-5) drives labor hours more than material quantity does: see a modeled burdened-wage labor band at /methodology/.
What Framing Costs
Wage-based labor bands plus sampled stud prices, scoped for interior walls, basements, and whole jobs.
- Framing Cost CalculatorWall-framing cost modeled as burdened carpenter wage × markup, not a flat $-per-linear-foot guess: see the full assumption chain at /methodology/.
- Interior Wall Framing Cost CalculatorSize a non-load-bearing partition wall and see a modeled labor band from a burdened carpenter wage, plus material quantity. Full chain at /methodology/.
- Basement Framing Cost CalculatorBasement stud framing priced with the same burdened-wage labor chain as any wall: a modeled band, not a flat number, with assumptions at /methodology/.
What the Prices Are Doing
At the producer level, softwood lumber costs 15% more than a year ago, lumber (all) 10.1% more, hardware 4.3% more (BLS Producer Price Index, July 2025 to July 2026, unadjusted 12-month change). Lumber is up sharply on the year, so a framing package quoted from spring prices is stale. Check the stud line before you trust any total. Full picture on the Cost Index.
